Cloth interior is more comfortable IMO.

In your experience do cars this old and older ever stay in Japan or are they almost always exported?

It depends on a number of things really. Cars with lower ks that still have inspection left on them are more likely to stay. Japanese people love having cars that are special models and are somewhat obscure, hence the reason for soo many limited type models ending up here.
Older cars are more expensive to own here, especially with bigger engines so if they are more pristine examples they are more likely to stay but there is no predicting really.
